Fitting a square peg into a round hole is a challenge. So too is trying to fit a student into a course that maybe is not the best fit for today’s local labour market. Right now, there is lots of opportunities in the labour market and these are growing every year. So as a community, we need to take advantage of this opportunity to build courses around the local growing and in-demand occupations.
During the Local Labour Market Consultations that occurred in January 2022, it was identified that we (as in the community as a whole) need to do a better job of identifying the gap between education programming and what jobs/skill sets are actually in-demand locally. Through this process of identification, our local post-secondary institutes can use this information to establish courses to support in-demand occupations both today and the future.
This project will see CFWD partner with Loyalist College to support a roundtable discussion with local employers about their needs today and tomorrow. Actionable items will be developed by Loyalist and brought back to those same employers for updates and validation.
