Manufacturing continues to be a key industry across CFWD’s catchment area of Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox and Addington Counties. This industry is also important to Brighton’s economy, just to the west of our area.
Despite its importance and shift in the nature of the industry, many people, including parents, continue to view jobs in manufacturing as a last choice for a career path. Yet the average annual wage (2020) was almost $57,000. There are many skilled trades and skilled occupations that are going unfilled in this industry yet they provide an excellent career path.
Over 2023/24, CFWD has partnered with Quinte Economic Development Commission to support workshops for employers in the industry to address the labour shortage and how to plan for their workforce needs in today’s environment. As well, workshops for teachers, guidance counsellors and parents will be supported to share the opportunities of growing careers in manufacturing, including both skilled trades and skilled occupations.
